1. 2wd HPI Baja 5B or 5T platform

2. Body types:

5B - Buggy body
5T - Truck body
Sprint - Wing (maximum wing dimensions to be set soon)
Modified - EDM and Late model body


3. Stock and Open classes

a. Stock - Any currently available stock CY or Zenoah motor of 23 or 26cc. No porting allowed. Stock can exhaust. Stock class will be "claimer" rules. If a motor is protested, a fee of street price for the motor is paid up front IN CASH. If the motor is found to be illegal, the protester gets the motor and thier money back and the cheater is disqualified. If the motor is found to be legal, the wrongly accused keeps the money and the motor. However, at any time during the races a motor can be claimed. The person claimed against does not have to open their motor until after the event is over. Once the last race has been run for the particular event the motor will be inspected.

b. Open class. Any motor from 23cc to 30.5cc, any exhaust pipe and fuel.

4. Functioning fail safes are required. Kill switches are not.

5. Functional brakes are required for corner marshall safety.

6. Exhaust and tire rules are at the discretion of the track owners.

7. Rolling start and caution flag will be at the discretion of the track owners but recommended.

8. No sharp or steel front bumpers.

9. Stock Baja fuel tank

10. Scale sized tracks preffered.

11. Minimum weight 18 lbs

Leave the small scale mentality out of this and also leave the drama behind as well. This is for OVAL BAJA racing.

As LSRC stated: Simple rules are the best rules. Give people options. Let them choose what they want to run and learn for themselves.

 

1/8 Open Nitro Late Model Rules:

Section 1:
Chassis:


1-1 Must be 1/8 production based 4 WD buggy drive
train.(Losi,Ofna,X-Ray and so on)
1-2 No offsetting a-arms or narrowing of a-arms
1-3 Must have dog bone center drive train, no on-road
drive trains.
1-4 No one off chassis. Example: If you have a home
made chassis you must make one for anyone who wants
one at a reasonable price or let anyone copy it. As a
manufacturer or a person who would make one for
someone you don't have to let them copy it.
1-5 Wheel base: 12 5/8" to 13"
1-6 Width: 13" max. - 11 1/4" min.
1-7 Any and all parts must be flush or in side the tread
width. 1/8 tolerance.
1-8 All chassis and tires must remain inside the body.
1-9 No metal or carbon fiber front bumpers.
1-10 Must have foam on the front bumper.


Section 2:

2-1 Any .28 or less
2-2 Modding is legal.

Section 3:

Section 4:
Side Dam specs:

4-1 Running a Side Dam is the tracks choice.
4-2 Side dam front leading edge must be at least 4" from
center of left front spindle with the wheels straight.
4-3 Side dam can be 5" tall from deck at it's highest point,
and cannot extend past rear spoiler.
4-4 Must have two tethers at least 8" apart.
4-5 Side dam must be on left side!

Section 5:
Rear Spoiler Specs:
5-1 Rear spoiler can only be as wide as the body at the
rear quarter panels.
5-2 Rear spoiler 3" max from deck.
5-3 The end caps must be a triangle shape.(See template)
You may have one fin on the spoiler and two side caps.
The third fin must also be the same dimension as side cap.
It can be located anywhere on the spoiler between the
two side caps. The fin must be in line with the side caps
on the front leading edge.

Section 6:
Wheel & Tire Specs:

6-1 Tracks choice on which tires are legal from approved
tire list!
6-2 All wheels must be 17mm buggy based.

Foam tire specs:
6-3 Max tire diameter- 106mm Max tire width- 46mm

Spec rubber tires:

DirtOval.com Official National Rulebook

All content subject to change.


All tracks using DirtOval.com rules must also adhere to DirtOval.com Track Safety and Race Procedure Guidelines as published on DirtOval.com. The primary safety requirement of all tracks will be the use of an adequate number of fire extinguishers on hand for all events whether they be nitro or electric.


General Rules
All races should be 4 minutes in length, qualifiers will use Ifmar starts. Turn marshals may not work on or repair cars. If a pit lane is available all cars must enter and exit the racing surface via the pit lane at all times. Any cars damaged and placed in the infield will remain there until that race is over. All drivers must turn marshal the race immediately following their race. All cars will be made available for tech inspection before and after race. Once a car has gone through tech before the race it must go directly to the track and not to pit area. All racers must have a personal transponder if required by the race organizer.

Race directors will have ultimate authority over rules enforcement. The primary basis for any rules decision must be based on what will be best for the majority of racers. If an item is not addressed in the rules listed here than you should assume it is not legal.


1/10th Scale 2wd Classes

All 2WD Classes: All entries must be 2wd and rear wheel drive only. For turn marshal safety all cars must have a front bumper that is made of a shock absorbing material e.g. nylon, delrin, plastic, kydex etc. Front bumpers must be mounted in such a way that they will contact an object prior to any other portion of the car in a front impact. All cars must have 4-wheel independent suspension. No straight axle cars allowed, single speed transmissions only. All EDM bodies, sprint car bodies and cages must resemble contemporary full scale cars racing in “World of Outlaws” and “DIRT” sanctioned events. All corners of bodies and wings must be rounded for safety. No silicone or rubber capped tires allowed.

  • Wheelbase: 9.500” min, 11.500" max
  • Maximum width: 10.000” (foam tires), 10.250" (rubber tires)

Stock and Limited Nitro Classes
Radio use is limited to 2 channels only i.e., no wings adjustable from radio, no front brakes allowed.

Tires
Tire rules will be determined by track surface and race organizers. General tire choices will be between either foam tires or rubber tires however a SPEC tire rule may be implemented if desired. Any tire additives that are used must be wiped clean from the tires before any races or practice sessions.

  • Foam Tires:
    Max wheel diameter: 2.0”
    Max front tire and wheel width: 1.1”
    Max rear tire and wheel width: 1.5”
  • Buggy Tires:
    Max wheel diameter: 2.2” front and rear
    Max wheel width: 1.750” rear, 1.000” front

All height measurements are from bottom of chassis unless otherwise noted.

Late Models
The only bodies legal for the Late Model class are those that have been approved by DirtOval.com and are listed on the DirtOval.com Aprroved Late Model body list. Any manufacturer who would like to have a body approved may contact DirtOval.com for approval specifications and instructions. Molded portion of body can be no longer than 22”. Approved body lists will be amended on January 1st and July 1st of each year. Late Model bodies may have openings for cylinder head, fuel tank access, glow plug, engine tuning, and exhaust outlets only. An under body support may be added to brace each rear quarter panel, but must hold it in stock position, can not be flared out. No additional wings, flaps, spoilers, wickers, vents or doohickeys will be allowed. Body may not be altered in any way from it’s stock configuration ie: shortened, lengthened, narrowed, flared fenders etc. Front and rear windows may be removed at trim lines but a flat lexan or similar material deck must be added in cockpit area. Bodies with add on roofs may leave front and rear windows in or out but roofs must be mounted in stock position.

  • Rear Spoiler: maximum chord is 2.750" from body deck including any wickerbills.

Sprint Cars
Must have scale appearing cage, hood, side panels, nerf bars and bumpers. Minimum of a 4 post cage required that resembles a drivers cockpit. A driver arm guard area is permitted on right side panel bust must be of reasonable size. All electronics, radio gear, fuel tanks must be positioned inside the cage side frames. Three dimensional scale appearing exhaust headers must appear on both sides of car in “engine area” and be made of round stock or molded polycarbonate (left side of nitro sprint is optional). Rear cage side panels may be used but may not extend beyond rear cage frame. No lexan or any other material may be mounted to nerf bars, bumpers, cage, wing or any other part of the car that will trap, alter, or direct air flow for the purpose of gaining an aerodynamic advantage. Must have appropriate openings on both sides of cage in driver compartment, forward portion of side panels can be no taller than highest point of hood, no solid side panels.

  • Maximum Length: 18.000"
  • Maximum width of hood: 3.600"
  • Maximum cage width at driver halo, down tubes, and top frame rail: 3.600"
  • Minimum vertical gap from top of hood to front cage crossbar: .750"
  • Wing minimum height at leading edge: 5.000" from bottom of chassis

Wings: Center section and side panels must be made from at least 3 separate pieces of polycarbonate, carbon or aluminum material. All corners and edges must be rounded and free of sharp edges. Main and Front wings must be mounted so that they are centered on cage, no offset wings. Wing center sections must have all 4 corners set at 90 degree angles, no canted or angled panels. Wings must also be mounted level from side to side. Center section of wing may not extend beyond leading or trailing edge of side panels. Side panels must have braces that hold side panel rigid at 90deg. to center section during race conditions. Two braces are required from top of the center foil to the left sideboard and one brace is permitted below the center foil to the right side board. Braces can be a maximum of .750" wide and front edge of front brace must be no more than 1.5” back from side panel leading edge. Side Panels may have front, back, top and bottom turnouts of no more than .375" and are included in max dimension. Flat foil center sections will be allowed a .250” turndown at the leading edge.

The 6x6" wing will be the standard Sprint Car wing size. Race organizers and series directors may at their discretion allow the optional 7x7" wing rule for races and series using buggy or rubber tires.

Race organizers may also choose to run wingless sprint events.

Limited and Stock sprint: No front wings allowed.


Eastern Dirt Modified (EDM)
Inner panel must have hood that extends from front of inner panel to at least the leading edge of the roof. Front bumper must be mounted flat and can not be angled up to act as a wing. An additional front body panel is allowed on the front of the car but may not extend forward of the front bumper. Front and rear windows must be removed and any clear portion is included in max roof length dimension. Side windows and A pillars must attach to side panels at top edge of door and must also contact entire length of roof (i.e. no large gaps between roof and top of windows, no T-tops). Roof width must be at least .500" narrower than inner panel max width dimension. Side windows must remain clear and no portions of side window may overlap side or sail panel. As an alternative side window material may be removed but A pillar must still remain in tact from front of door to front of Roof. Roof, windows, side and sail panels must be symmetrical. Front edge of Door/side panel may not extend past the centerline of the front axle with wheels straight. Front of sail panel may be no more than 1” forward of rear tire leading edge and can not overlap side windows. No additional lips or flaps are allowed with the exception of a .250" bend at top and bottom of side and sail panel. Reasonable size and quantities of braces are allowed if desired. Bodies must have at least 1/3 of right rear tire exposed when viewed from front, top and rear of car. No rear wheel cutouts are allowed on the horizontal plane of the inner panel.

Electric Class Rules

Motors & Batteries

  • 17.5 Spec: DirtOval.com SPEC 17.5 MOTORS and DirtOval.com SPEC Li-Po 3200mah batteries are the only motors and batteries legal for this class. Sensored Speed controls only. Spec motors and batteries will be available for purchase by November 1, 2008.
  • 13.5 Spec: DirtOval.com SPEC 13.5 MOTORS and DirtOval.com SPEC Li-Po 3200mah batteries are the only motors and batteries legal for this class. Sensored speed controls only. Spec motors and batteries will be available for purchase by November 1, 2008.
  • Modified: All motor systems must meet ROAR Brushless specification with the exception of the MAMBA MAX system from Caslte Creations which will also be legal for modified. Sensored or sensorless speed controls are allowed in modified only. Race organizers may impose a minimum turn limit at their discretion. Any 7.4V LiPo battery will be legal for modified but batteries must use a quick release hobby grade connector for connection to the ESC ie:sermos, deans, traxxas.

All racers shall take every precaution to insure safe charging and discharging techniques with their batteries. This shall include but is not limited to, attentive monitoring of battery during charging and use of a proper charging container i.e., LiPo sack. To insure safe charging methods are followed by all competitors, all batteries will be checked prior to each race to ensure battery voltage is a maximum of 8.44 volts or less. If the battery reads 8.45 or more you do not race. Battery temperature may also be checked with the following pre-race procedure. A control pack will be placed in the tech area for the purpose of monitoring the pack temperature. Checked batteries shall be nor more than 70° F or 10° F above the temp of the control pack whichever is greater. All DirtOval.com Spec batteries must use the supplied deans style connector.

DirtOval.com Spec motors must be out of the box stock, with no modifications allowed. No parts of motors may be modified, altered or removed in any way. More specific Tech guidelines for motors will be available to all participating track owners and race organizers.

Weights (including transponder)
Sprint Car: minimum weight is 52oz.
EDM and Late Model: minimum weight is 50 oz.



Nitro Class Rules

All classes: Maximum fuel tank size is 75cc. No stinger modifications and no pipes with adjustable stingers allowed.

  • Limited: O.S. Max 12TG Production motors only. Must be out of the box STOCK. No modifications allowed. Rotary or Slide carb version ok. Any glow plug may be used. Glow plug gasket/washers of any size are permitted but not required. Production headers and pipes only with max 6mm stinger opening.
  • Open: Any .12 cubic inch engine. Un-modified .15 Rtr engines may be used but must utilize stock pullstart or rotostart system.

Weights (including transponder and fuel)
Minimum weight is 56 oz.



Losi 1/10 Slider Spec

This rule package outlines all the requirements for a controlled racing program (SPEC) for the Losi 1/10 Slider. The rules set fourth are a simple guideline to promote entry level racing without increased cost for the racer.

Vehicle Requirements: Losi 1/10 Slider must be run in stock configuration or better known as BOX STOCK. No aftermarket components can be added to the vehicle to enhance handling capabilities.

The only items that can be changed are as follows:

  • Gearing: Both Pinion and Spur may be changed.
  • Tires:Only Losi 1/10 Slider tires can be used. The vehicle is stock with a standard compound tires. A harder compound tire can be used for the front (LOSB7432) and rear (LOSB7462) of the vehicle. This may be necessary on carpet oval tracks where grip is optimum. The stock “orange” colored foam MUST be used in all tires. No tire additives allowed
  • Battery Position: Battery can be moved forward or back to optimize handling.
  • Body: Colors and paint schemes can be changed.
  • Racers must use headers, roll bars, and knerf bars to keep scale look of vehicle. Racers can upgrade to chrome plated roll cage if desired
  • Rear wing position can be within standard range of adjusted for improved handling.
  • Front and rear wing must be used at all times.
  • Driver’s helmet can be removed or holes can be added to aid in cooling the esc.
  • Suspension: Wheel Base can be adjusted by rear hubs and spacers only
  • Shock oil viscosity
  • Shock spring rate
  • Different length camber link locations can be used to improve performance.

Motor: For the 1/10 Slider Spec class the stock Losi LM-32K motor must be used at all times.

Batteries: Battery liimited to any 6-cell sub-C NiMh not exceed 4200 mah.

Electronics: Vehicle must use all stock Losi electronics that are supplied with the vehicle. They are as follows:

  • ESC: LOSB9520 MSC12RB 12T Fwd/Rev ESC (reverse can not be used during racing events and must be programmed out of ESC prior to racing)
  • Radio: LOSB0805 LSR-3000 DSM Transmitter
  • Receiver: LOSB0806 MRX-3000 DSM Receiver
  • Servo: LOSB0818 MSX-Digital Servo

Skill Level: There are 2 skill levels for racing the controlled Slider Class. They are as follows

  • Skill Level 1 - Novice: Racer must be new to R/C racing and not have any previous experience.
  • Skill Level 2 - Sportsman: Racer must have at least 1 year of R/C racing experience.

Race Lengths: All race lengths will be 4 minutes with a maximum of 3 qualifiers and single main events. Triple A-Main events will not be used.

Vehicle Minimum Weight: 4 lb. 5 oz. (stock weight of vehicle with Losi 3600NiMh Performance Spec battery used)
